For my first photo trip of the year I attended a Femme Nue retreat and a hacienda/spa a couple of hours outside of Guadalajara, Jalisco, México. This was in a part of México that was new to me. Unfortunately, the trip was overshadowed due to some serious civil unrest that had been centered in the area a couple of weeks earlier. The government had tried to capture a cartel leader and ended up killing him resulting in cartel members burning buildings, blocking roads, and causing a temporary closure of the airport. It looked like things had settled down by the time of my trip so I decided to go ahead with it, but I didn’t venture on any side trips or exploration. Everything turned out fine, but it did leave some tension in the air.
I took public transportation to the airport and had a nice nonstop (Economy Plus) flight to Guadalajara. I flew in a few days before the retreat. My hotel was literally in the airport, and since I opted not to do any exploring I ended up staying at the airport for several days, sampling the various restaurants and doing laps around the terminal for exercise. It was a little bit funny, but it also gave me some nice relaxation. We met up at my hotel and took a bus out to the hacienda where we were having the retreat. It was a 17th century historic hacienda that had been converted into a hotel and spa. Our group took over the entire property, and it was only unusual in that they had a full staff of kitchen staff, maids, and groundskeepers who were still working while we were shooting. We had a large contingent of models from around the world that included the organizers Sienna Hayes (Canada) and Vivian Cove (USA), Denisa Strakova (Czechia), Sylph Sia (Australia), Tezz Tran (Czechia), Yareni Bates (México), Daria Sells (Canada), Claire/RebirthOfTheBird (France), Katie Marie (USA). I had worked with 6 of them before, and 3 of them were new to me. Along with the models there were 9 photographers (and one photo assistant).
