This afternoon I saw a new play by Octavio Solis at the Bowmer Theatre at OSF, Mother Road. It was like an echo of The Grapes of Wrath where a Mexican-American descendant of Tom Joad is located to return to the ancestral farm in Oklahoma. It dealt with the issues of class and the forces exerted on people by their fore bearers. The acting was great. Some very interesting staging, with the pickup truck they were traveling in, and in particular a gas pump played by Jeffrey King. Some of it was a little preachy and playing to victimhood, but overall it was an interesting and thought provoking production.
