The Fallen Woman

La TraviataTonight I joined Bob in going into the city to see the San Francisco Opera’s production of La Traviata. This is apparently one of the most popular operas currently performed, and this was a new production for the SF Opera. I don’t think I’d ever seen it before, though there were several passages of music that were familiar as they have almost become stereotypical opera music.

We went in early and had dinner at Max’s, and then listened to the pre-show lecture. We had a little adventure as about 15 minutes before the show was about to start the fire alarm went off and we all had to evacuate the building until the fire marshal cleared it. It turned out to be a false alarm. Everything finally started about a half-hour late.

The opera was beautifully performed and very moving. The music was wonderful, coming from the classical era of the 19th century. I very much enjoyed going even though it is making this week very busy.
