My One and Only Shakespeare of the Year

Twelfth Night, Sparc Theater, 2024After dropping in for a short bit on the annual VDM birthday party, I joined Bob and a friend attending the Sparc Theater’s production of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. As a number of issues arose this summer that made me decide not to try and attend a number of my usual Shakespeare festivals or other plays, this is probably the only play and in particular Shakespeare play that I will probably see this year. Sad in many ways, but hopefully future years will get me back into that rhythm.

After a long stretch of very hot weather, this turned out to be a nice warm, but not too hot night. The play was well done. They reset the play in the southern US, but the accents seemed to drift in and out a bit. The surroundings were beautiful as always; the sunset over the vineyards was particularly nice. From the first few lines of the play I knew I was missing live theater. Luckily I knew it fairly well as the entire cast was only about 6 people, and when you have a play that’s already confusing identities it always makes it a little more challenging. Next year I definitely need to see more live theater.
