Macbeth, The Final Play of the Year

Macbeth, CalShakes, 2019Tonight I trekked up to Orinda for the last CalShakes play of the year (and my final scheduled play of the year), Macbeth.

Although it’s been quite hot at home, it was pretty cool up at the theater. The play was good; solid acting and an interesting stage. Similar to my reaction to OSF’s production, it seemed like Lady Macbeth did the stronger acting job. My only minor annoyance in the play was the fact that there were a ton of school age kids in attendance who were pretty chatty and social media-ing prior to the start of the play, but they were mostly behaved during the play.

I guess I’m still keeping an open mind with respect to Eric Ting. None of the plays have really blown me away, but I haven’t been completely turned off either. I liked some of the non-Shakespeare plays they did this year. It was interesting to see them, but I hope they don’t lose site of Shakespeare. Hopefully they will keep the attention on the core of Shakespeare at the theater.
