Much Ado About Something

Dan, London, Shakespeare's Globe, 2026On a very warm day in London, I accomplished a major bucket-list item in my Shakespeare journey. After a week that included visiting Stratford-Upon-Avon and seeing Shakespeare’s home and grave, I made it to London to see Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, somewhat of the mother-ship in Shakespearedom — although it’s a modern reconstruction, and I saw a production of Much Ado About Nothing there.

The morning started out a bit challenging as we were unable to get an ride-share to pick us up for a scheduled tour of The Globe. Luckily, our host walked by and suggested a route on the London Underground, which I had been a bit timid to explore, but which turned out to be a lifesaver. We took a couple of trains (one line of which was like a sauna) and made it to near London Bridge. It was a 15 minute walk to the theater, and we were a bit late, but made it onto the next group. The day was unseasonably hot. Later in the afternoon we saw Much Ado About Nothing, which was a nice production. The only downside was in the later hours the sun hit us and it was quite intense, and I was sweating like a pig. Nonetheless, it was fun to see the play, and to accomplish this bucket-list item of seeing a Shakespeare play in the home base.

As a postscript, I was supposed to see another Shakespeare play at the Globe the following night, but it was cancelled due to the high temperatures.
